CTG Delivers Subsea Buoyancy Tanks

Composite product specialist CTG has won a contract to supply 16 large carbon composite buoyancy tanks to Thales Geosolutions . The filament-wound carbon fibre epoxy tanks have been designed, developed and manufactured at CTG's Banbury UK facility.

The vessels measure 1.6m long by 0.5m diameter and are proof tested to 1,500 bar for operation at up to 1,200 bar.

CTG spokesman Jeff Hilton said, "The contract with Thales Geosolutions was completed in a very short timeframe and demonstrates our flexibility and competences in composite subsea pressure vessel design and manufacture.

The contract also demonstrates the diversity of our pressure vessel products.

In this application they are used as buoyancy tanks subjected to high external pressures but they are also used as electronics housings and pressure compensators in the same industry."
