EA Celebrates Award for Littlestone Sea Defence Scheme
01 Dec 2003
The Environment Agency in the UK says a major sea defence scheme it executed on the Kent coast - the Littlestone sea defence scheme - has won a major environmental engineering award.
The Civil Engineering Environmental Quality Assessment and Awards (CEEQUAL) scheme, assesses the environmental quality of civil engineering projects and was established, with government financial support, more than three years ago by the Institution of Civil Engineers.
The Kent defences stretch from Littlestone to St Mary's Bay and received the highest level of award, being classed as 'excellent' in its design and construction.
The honour was shared with project consultants Babtie Brown and Root and project contractors Westminster Dredging and Van Oord ACZ. The project is being funded by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
