Qatar to Build a New Airport on Reclaimed Land
01 Dec 2003
Qatar is set to build a new airport which will be sited partly on land reclaimed from the sea, at a cost of US$2 billion, according to an announcement made by Qatar Airways earlier this week.
The company announced that construction will begin in mid-2004, and should be completed in 2015.
The statement said that approximately half of the new airport will be built on reclaimed land, and the first phase of the construction, which is scheduled to finish by early 2009, will allow the new airport to accommodate two Airbus A380-800 aircraft.
