McMurdo Launch Explosion at Europort
01 Dec 2003
McMurdo Limited , the Portsmouth UK based manufacturer of marine electronic and safety equipment had an eventful Europort last month, revealing a new corporate branding and launching two new products plus a new website.
The complete range of products manufactured and marketed by McMurdo will now feature the McMurdo logo, bringing together a number of clearly identified brands. These include the Pains Wessex range of pyrotechnics, the ICS range of NAVTEX and communication equipment, and McMurdo's brand of marine electronics and safety products for commercial and leisure mariners.
The Europort launch of McMurdo's new ICS NAV5plus printing NAVTEX receiver provides vessel operators seeking SOLAS compliance with a product which exceeds GMDSS NAVTEX requirements. It has dual channel reception as a standard feature, allowing simultaneous monitoring of both NAVTEX frequencies (518kHz and 490kHz) without the user needing to change channels.
The ICS NAV5plus is designed to directly support remote active and passive NAVTEX antenna types.
Developed for IMO GMDSS fitting, it includes all the facilities required for receiving and printing NAVTEX messages. It also has an RS422 data output suitable for connection to integrated bridge or PC charting systems.
McMurdo was also showing its MT-1 UAIS, which has recently received its EC Quality System certification, which means it now has full Type Approval and EU MED Ship Wheel Approval. These approvals enable the MT-1 UAIS to be fitted to vessels whose flag state are MED compliant.
UAIS is mandated to be fitted to all SOLAS vessels before 31December 2004. The McMurdo MT-1 is designed to meet IMO Class A requirements for UAIS, providing tracking, positioning, and a collision avoidance system. The result of a joint development between McMurdo and Transas, orders for the MT-1 already exceed 1,300 units.
McMurdo also launched its new website to coincide with Europort. The site is packed with information for the commercial user, including a guide to international support, technical data and downloadable product manuals.
The site can be accessed at www.mcmurdo.co.uk
