Mermaid Captures Lost Buoy

While working off St Ives on the north coast of Cornwall last month, the crew of the Trinity House Lighthouse Service vessel THV Mermaid captured a drifting navigation buoy.
The 20ft red and white safe water mark bore the inscription 'Property of USCG'. The US Coast Guard confirmed that the buoy was reported missing from its assigned position off the North Carolina coast a full year earlier.
The wayward buoy had drifted approximately 3,250 miles.
