Sales were up by 13% on 2001, with a significant increase in the number of vessels coming from the Arab market.

Occupancy of the Yard's three docks averaged over 90%.

The largest vessel repaired over the year was the 457,927 dwt Stena King, which had some 500 tonnes of steel replaced. The largest blasting and painting contract was completed on the 265,243dwt World Prelude, which required nearly 110,000m 2of blasting and over 313,000m 2of painting. Over the course of the year, the Yard completed over 3.5 million m 2ofpainting and 831,000m 2of blasting.

Following three years of trials, ASRY successfully completed the contract to paint Vela International Marine Ltd's 48,530dwt tanker Al Safaniya with Sealcoat's new poison-free anti-fouling coating.

This new paint was developed to counter marine and atmospheric pollution and was applied by one of ASRY's specialist painting contractors. All staff in the dock were able to work without the need for full face mask protection or breathing apparatus.
