The two freight ferries, which became available with the closure of the company's Dover-Zeebrugge freight service at the end of last year, will be reborn as multi-purpose superferries on the Dover-Calais route before the start of the busy summer season.

Each ship will gain an extra 5,000m 2of passenger accommodation, with extensions to decks 7 through 10 and other works requiring some 1,400 tonnes of steel, 50 tonnes of paint and 120km of cabling. Seating is being added for 2,000 passengers as well as restaurants, bars, shops and entertainment areas.

Mechanically, each vessel will receive a new diesel genset to meet increased power demand, uprated bow thrusters and new rudder flaps.
