Rebuilt Test Barge Makes Debut

Smit Transport Europe has welcomed the New Years delivery of the Smit Engineering designed test lift barge E3505, which will be used by offshore crane vessel operators such as Heerema and Saipem to test their cranes. The E3505's first test is scheduled for this month with Saipem's S 7000 in Rotterdam.

The E3505 has been totally rebuilt, strengthened according to the rules of Lloyds Register and measures 66m by 23m by 4m, making the pontoon well suited for heavy ro-ro transport projects as well as the biggest test lifts.

To accommodate client's requirements, lifting trunnions have been incorporated below deck level in place of pad eyes to facilitate connecting and releasing client's slings. When fully ballasted, the total test weight of the E3505 is 5,500 tonnes. The barge is designed in such a way that another test barge, E1505, measuring 60m by 15m by 3.5m, can be placed on its deck to increase the test weight to 8,000 tonnes.

The E3505 adds to a wide range of Smit test barges which are based in Rotterdam but can be rapidly mobilised to anywhere in North West Europe.
