VTAS Automates Monitoring
01 Jan 2003
VT Controls has developed a new 'open' automation system called VTAS especially for complex applications in the industrial and marine markets.
In the marine field, VTAS will provide integrated control and monitoring for systems such as propulsion plant, electrical generation and distribution systems, auxiliary equipment, tank gauging, cargo handling and safety systems.
VTAS provides both VDU screen based and traditional interfaces such as propulsion control levers and gauges. Dual processing and dual networking provide levels of redundancy in excess of classification society requirements. Online trend analysis enables condition-based maintenance, identifying problems with machinery before they impact the operation.
VTAS has already been specified for two 90m hydrographic oceanographic survey vessels for the British Ministry of Defence and the new 43m diesel electric vessel for the Scottish Fisheries Protection Agency. VTAS on board the MoD vessels ill integrate their power system control, providing fully automatic power management, control of all auxiliary systems, and interfaces to the fire detection and ships' maintenance information system.
