Cummins Marine Introduces the QSK60 Engine Range

Cummins Marine followed up the European debut of its new QSK60 engine range at Rotterdam Maritime with an American first appearance last month at the Workboat Show in New Orleans.

The new UK built QSK60, which spans a power range of 2,000 to 2,300hp for propulsion and 1,500 to 1,825kWe for auxiliary applications, is currently the most powerful marine engine in the Cummins line-up.

The engine has a proven track record in mining, excavator and electrical power applications.

Cummins Marine worked with vessel operators, boat builders and marine engineers to produce this marinised version, which will target applications such as offshore supply vessels, tugs, ferries or emergency gensets for offshore platforms.

The propulsion model features continuous duty ratings of 2,000 and 2,200hp at 1,800rpm plus a heavy duty rating of 2,300 hp at 1,900rpm.

Genset outputs are 1,500 and 1,825kWe at 1,500 and 1,800rpm respectively. Quantum System electronics optimise engine fuelling for reduced emissions, smoke and fuel consumption.

The electronic control module, a CM500 for propulsion and a Dominion G-drive for auxiliary configurations, allow for customised calibrations to match the engine to a vessel's operating environment.

Options intended to lower operating and maintenance costs include the Cummins designed Eliminator oil purification system which removes the need for conventional oil filters and the Centinel oil management system, an oil burn system which, in conjunction with the Eliminator, eliminates the need for oil changes and costly disposal.

The QSK60 meets SOLAS requirements for engine design and surface temperatures and will be IMO emissions certified by the US EPA, Lloyds Register and CCNR. Cummins Marine expects the QSK60 to receive certificates from ABS, DNV, LR, BV and GL before the first full production engines are shipped in June.
