France's largest towage organisation Groupe Bourbon is to withdraw from the ports of Calais, Cherbourg, Dieppe, Sete and Noumes due to lack of profitability. It is reported that activities in those ports will be sold to Saint Victor a company headed by former Marseilles tug owner Guy Chambon.
West Coast Towing Offshore Ltd (WCT) has sold the deepsea tug Sir Michael to an un-named British company who intends to use the vessel to tow ships from Brazil to India for scrap. The 42.2m, 4,300hp, tug will remain under the management of WCT for the next two years.
US specialist Ocean Tug & Barge Inc recently oversaw the launch of the Meredith C Reinauer the latest in a series of tugs entering the Articulated Tug and Barge trade (see photo).
The 37.8m tug is powered by two Caterpillar 3612 main engines producing 7200bhp to push a dedicated oil barge of 20,100dwt and 148m in length. Meredith C Reinauer will go into the coastal and short sea oil trade as part of the growing fleet of ATBs operated by Reinauer Transportation of New York.
