Hagglunds Pulling Power On Board at seawork2003

The Macduff Shipyards newbuild research vessel Aora , which will participate in the floating exhibition component of seawork2003 , features drive motors for its on board deck machinery supplied by Hagglunds . Macduff has been using Hagglunds motors for years to drive the trawl winches, net winches and cargo anchor windlasses supplied with their vessels.

The wide range of hydraulic motors available from Hagglunds enables many applications to benefit from their advanced high torque technology, which eliminates the need for a gearbox.

The latest Hagglund Compact motors deliver versatility with a high power to weight ratio, helping Macduff to satisfy the modern requirement to fit relatively small vessels with significant amounts of equipment.

The 22m Aora , commissioned by the University of London and built by Macduff for the Marine Biological Station at Millport, has five trawl winches all using Hagglunds direct drive hydraulic motors which reduce the amount of space taken up by the winches.

The split net winch also uses Hagglunds Compact motors, again enabling a motor to be fitted within limited available space.

For a research vessel such as Aora , precise control of rope tension levels is also a priority.

The Hagglunds multi-camlobe radial piston design delivers this while also being an attractive, low-noise motor on the winches.

Visitors to seawork2003 will be able to inspect all the Aora's deck equipment close up and can also visit Hagglund's stand within the exhibition hall, where a working Compact Motor will be on display. Equipment specifiers will enjoy seeing the inner workings of the motor and many of its features, such as two speed multi-plate brake and through shaft capability.
