VT Halmatic Sends in the Fleet to seawork2003 Exhibition
01 Jun 2003
The prolific Portchester UK based workboat builders VT Halmatic will bring an unprecedented five of their craft to the floating pontoon at seawork2003 , refelecting the variety of boats the yard is capable of building.
seawork visitors will first be able to inspect a brand new design, the first of class Arctic 20 RIB destined for service with the Hellenic Navy. This boat, powered by twin 90hp two stroke Mariner outboards, is capable of 45 knots and brave visitors to seawork may be able to arrange a blast across Southampton Water in the care of an experienced Halmatic helmsman. Also on seawork 's floating pontoon will be a 9.85m Southampton based Patrol Boat operated by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
The Halmatic Cougar Alliance announced at seawork two years ago has turned up some impressive orders, none more so than one for 20 Cougar 33 Ultra Fast Patrol Boats for the Royal Oman Police. By fortunate coincidence the second batch of five of these 11.4m, 45 knots plus craft will be ready for delivery at the same time as seawork . An additional two of the new Cougars will be arriving on the floating pontoon on Thursday 19 June with a contingent from the Royal Oman Police on board, including the Head of the Royal Oman Police Coastguard Division.
VT Halmatic's steelbuilt division has gone from strength to strength since their first craft, the Poole Harbour tourist ferry Maid of the Harbour went into service two summers ago. Back by popular demand, Maid of the Harbour returns to the seawork pontoon, where it will again host the AGMs and lunches of a number of major marine associations.
One of the highlights of seawork2002 was the signing ceremony for a first of type 15m general purpose tug/workboat to be built in steel by VT Halmatic for D Ferran and Sons of Northern Ireland. One year on and the craft, which Ferran will deploy for general harbour duties on behalf of Belfast Port Authority, will hit the water just in time for seawork , rounding off VT Halmatic's formidable fleet in attendance at the show this year.
