The 20m LOA craft has a beam of 6.5m, a draft of 1.85m, and is certified as a Category Two Workboat under the new Workboat Code.

Spanish John II is a twin screw landing craft with a two-leaf hinged, hydraulically operated ultra-heavy bow ramp. This large and powerful vessel is able to transport heavy vehicles and has a permitted deck cargo carrying capacity of around 45 tonnes.

Deck machinery includes a 14 tonne/metre Palfinger crane giving a particularly long reach when the ramp is leafed over on shallow gradient beaches. There is also a three tonne capstan winch.

Below deck the vessel has fuel cargo bunker capacity of around 30 tonnes in addition to its own 4,500 litre fuel service tank. Aft of the fuel bunker tanks there are twin 230 hp Daewoo engines with 3.12:1 gearboxes. The large aft space directly below the deckhouse is for crew accommodation.

The large aft deckhouse is fully insulated and lined with wood grained laminate, while 15 large alloy-framed windows ensure excellent all-round vision. Crew comforts include a hot water pressure system and full central heating. The full size flushing marine toilet compartment is accessed from the deck.
