Line Protection in seawork Line-Up
01 Mar 2003
New to the UK market and new to seawork for 2003 is Cheltenham based Chafe-Pro (UK) Ltd. The company manufactures and supplies a range of products for the protection of mooring tug/ towing lines from damage due to chafe and abrasion.
Chafe-Pro has been supplying the American based marine market for seven years and is now beginning to release its products into the European marketplace.
The protection of tug, towing and mooring lines from chafe abrasion damage provides mariners with daily operational problems. The mariner will usually make do with bits of discarded fire hose, old tyres, scraps of canvas, etc but such products are normally chosen because of their low cost and availability rather than for their chafe-resistant features. They are actually costly in the long term as they do not provide a protection solution or cut down the maintenance time spent continually checking and repositioning lines. Chafe-Pro products offer the mariner cost effective protection from line degradation caused by continual vessel movement, impacts against ships' sides, barges and docks, and the high frictional heat generated by chocks. They can be used in most environments without causing a hazard and once applied, need only minimal maintenance.
Chafe-Pro (UK) Ltd currently manufacture, supply and distribute a range of marine chafe protection wraps that can be used on vessels ranging from weekend pleasure boats to the largest oil tankers in the world. Chafe-Pro's products will be on show at seawork and their sales team available for all enquiries.
