Working with their European partner Stell, Plate & Locate have developed their own photoluminescent escape route signage called Luxolight. The product has been successfully used in the shipping and offshore industries for IMO and SOLAS signs relating to lifesaving, fire protection and cabins as well as low location lighting systems.

Luxolight systems work alongside emergency escape lighting or even as an alternative, providing people in emergency situations with a clear escape route in the event of a power failure. Luxolight absorbs energy from daylight and artificial light then releases the stored energy as powerful long-lasting light when the original energy source is removed.

The photo-luminescent material is non-toxic and non-radioactive and is available in a range of strips which enable easy distinguishing of stairs, handrails, ramps and doorways. Fire and emergency instructions can be easily read in the dark if printed on Luxolight.

Plate & Locate, with Stell, have to date designed, produced and installed systems for Irish Ferries, P&O, and Sea France as well as the Aker Finnyards, Kvaerner and Harland & Wolff shipyards.
