Subsea Vision Surveys seawork Exhibition
01 Mar 2003
Travelling to seawork for the first time from their Wimborne, Dorset base is Subsea Vision Ltd, a company offering a broad range of nearshore and offshore underwater survey capabilities.
Equipped with small ROVs such as the versatile Video Ray Pro II as well as divers, Subsea Vision can provide many useful services to port and harbour authorities, such as the assessment of Accelerated Low Water Corrosion. Subsea Vision has introduced a tooling package for cleaning prior to non-destructive testing which eliminates the need for preliminary diver intervention, thereby increasing project safety.
Integration of the ROV powered cleaning brush enables specific areas to be cleaned and UT readings taken, determining the extent of ALWC. The ROV is a stable platform with which to perform through and detailed video work, both in real time and recorded.
Cathodic Potential (CP) readings, marine growth assessments, accurate times and depths of anomalies, positions, depths relative to tide movements, severity of corrosion and depths of void can all be recorded. This gives a clearer understanding as to the extent of remedial works, if required, and enables budgets to be prepared with greater accuracy.
Subsea Vision can subsequently act on behalf of the client whilst remedial works are underway, ensuring projects are completed to client specifications.
Another useful and timely service in view of increased concern for maritime and port security is Subsea Vision's use of ROVs for underwater surveys of berths, vessels and surrounding areas, which can be undertaken to any schedule should the project not require 24 hour coverage.
Subsea Vision also undertakes subsea inspection works, operating from small ships and Dynamic Positioning (DP) vessels. A recent project off the southeast coast of Ireland was in conjunction with Svitzer Ltd.
The ROV, fitted with sonar and transponder, enabled safe navigation to seabed anomalies found by side scanning sonar on board. The ROV completed a full seabed survey once each anomaly was located. The information as compiled on video tapes and back up with comprehensive video logs.
