Monitoring & Control for Greek Navy Re-Powers
01 May 2003
Following its selection on the Hellenic Navy's SuperVita Class Fast Attack Craft, VT Control's VTAS automation system has been chosen to provide a modern platform management system on the Hellenic Navy Evropi Class MCMVs.
VTAS is a distributed open system automation system utilising commercial off-theshelf components and transportable software designed in accordance with IEC61131-3.
This flexible solution was developed to suit both newbuilds and retrofits from Remote Engine Control and Monitoring through to Integrated Platform Management Systems and beyond.
This multi-million pound contract forms part of a larger Evropi Class MCMV Re-Engine contract being undertaken by VT Integrated Logistics. VT Controls will be responsible for the removal of the existing system and the design, installation and commissioning of the new VTAS control and monitoring system.
The existing system, using bespoke analogue electronic technology was also supplied by VT Controls when the ships were built in the late 1970s.
The VTAS system will provide enhanced control and monitoring positions at both the SCC and bridge. The system will use multi-functional work stations, two of which will be in the SCC and one on the bridge. A number of out stations/controllers will be located in the machinery spaces together with distributed I/O units to provide analogue and digital interfaces to the sensors and actuators.
