Tsavliris is Busy Responding to Emergencies
01 May 2003
Several recent salvage operations have highlighted the worldwide capability of Tsavliris as a leading emergency response contractor. Late March saw the group dealing with problems as diverse as fire-damage and ice entrapment when it was engaged under Lloyd's Open Form twice in the same week to salve vessels as far apart as the Baltic Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
In one case, the handysize bulk carrier Madredeus suffered structural damage in her forward area when trapped in ice about 90 miles off St. Petersburg.
Employing locally based ice-breakers and salvage tugs, Tsavliris was able to inspect, de-water and patch the casualty underwater in spite of the freezing conditions.
At the same time, Tsavliris was engaged to assist another bulker, the Aegean Sea, immobilised in the Galapagos Islands after sustaining an engineroom explosion and fire whilst on route to China.
