Dry Coating for Efficient Boating

Cambridgeshire UK based humidity control experts Munters have helped Stena Line make potentially significant saving on fuel costs on its Holyhead to Dun Laoghaire ferry service.

Experts from the firm's Temporary Humidity Control (THC) service were brought in to control environmental conditions while the HSS Stena Explorer was repainted during a £2 million refit at dry dock in Belfast.

The new coating will mean that a reduction in propulsive power will now be required for the vessel to reach full speed, translating to a likely substantial fuel savings.

Munters installed specialist humidity control equipment to prevent rust from forming on the metal after the old paint was blasted off and while a new silicon based coating was being applied.

HSS Stena Explorer is claimed to be the largest high speed vessel in the world and is able to carry 375 cars, trucks and buses and up to 1,500 passengers at a maximum speed of 40 knots.
