Marco Polo Funding Slashed
01 Nov 2003
The European Commission hasslashed funding for its Marco Polo Programme , designed to take freight transport off congested roads and put it onto rail, short sea shipping and inland waterways. A final budget of only €75m over five years represents a compromise between the original plan calling for €115m and proposals by member state transport ministers to cut it to a virtually useless €35m.
