Tenby RNLI Lifeboat House and Slipway Under Construction
01 Nov 2003
The new boathouse will be located to the east of the existing structure and will house a new Tamar class slipway lifeboat.
The project is particularly challenging for Dean & Dyball, not only because the site is exposed to adverse sea and weather conditions, but also because the location is difficult to access and nearly all building materials will have to be brought in by sea.
Initial works involve the driving of piles to form the supporting structure for the slipway and boathouse. This will be followed by the construction of the reinforced concrete deck on which the boathouse will be constructed. It is intended that these works be completed before the end of this year in order that work on the superstructure can continue in the dry throughout the winter.
The construction plant is sea based and all the piles will be brought in by sea.
Dean & Dyball's regional director Neil Beresford said, 'This contract is of a particularly challenging nature but it is one that Dean & Dyball is more than ready to meet. Wea re very experienced at working in exposed conditions and battling against the elements and look forward to working together with the RNLI to deliver the project fully in line with their expectations.'
