Vessel Sharing Agreement
01 Sep 2003
Irish Continental Group (ICG) subsidiaries Eucon Shipping & Transport and Eurofeeders have entered into a vessel sharing agreement (VSA) with Mersey Docks & Harbour Company subsidiary BG Freight Line which becomes effective from the first of next month.
The move follows an established industry trend for companies to pool capacity, in this instance on shared routes linking northwestern Europe, Ireland and the UK.
Capacity and schedules on routes linking the ports of Dublin, Cork and Belfast to Southampton, Felixstowe, Le Havre, Antwerp and Rotterdam are expected to benefit from the pooling of capacity through increased frequency and improved schedule integrity.
Under the VSA, the 13 vessels operated by the three lines will offer six sailings per week in each direction between Dublin and Rotterdam. There will be increased peak capacity on all routes linking Dublin, Cork and Belfast to the continental ports of Antwerp and Le Havre and increased handling for 45ft containers throughout the fleets. There will be access to two terminals in Dublin, the Dublin Ferryport Terminal (DFT) operated by ICG and located on the north side of the port, and Mersey Docks' Marine Terminal Limited (MTL), located on the south bank. Both DFT and MTL have undergone recent infrastructural development and operate a range of modern cranes and secondary handling equipment.
