Ordered by the Compagnie Nationale de Maritime in France, the 101.7m long and 15.58m wide, the as yet unnamed Yard No 816 draws about 5m and has a height to main deck of 7.7m.

The propulsion plant comprises two as yet unidentified 2,970kW units providing 16.3 knots. Accommodation for 110 crew and research staff is in cabins on four decks.

The keel for the newbuilding was laid in January. She is due for launch and naming in November and for handover in June next year.

Niestern Sander said her construction was 'an immense challenge' and also marked the yard's entry into the market for specialised research vessels. The order was, in addition, one of the biggest it had ever taken, the yard said.

Yard officials would not reveal contract price or say anything further about the vessel to Maritime Journal . However a cut-away drawing provided by Conoship reveals a lot of detail.

Niestern Sander is a member of Conoship, which groups ten Dutch shipyards with 14 indoor assembly facilities.
