Concept ROV at Oceanology International

The result of more than a year of research, development and testing will be revealed on Stand 546 at Oceanology International when Ac-Cess and their engineering partners at All Oceans debut the AC-ROV.

The concept video camera and sensor platform will also be on display when Ac-Cess and All Oceans participate at seawork2004 in June.

The AC-ROV features six identical thrusters to optimise operator viewing control. Four 'full-bore' vectored horizontal thrusters units give equal forward, sideways and pan control while two vertical units give powerful up, down and pitch control. A one-handed (left or right) 5-axis controller makes for a very simple and versatile operator interface.

'Flight Freeze' is another powerful feature that can be selected, refreshed or terminated with the press of a button.

All moving parts of the AC-ROV have been endurance tested to failure at continuous full speed and full pressure load, ie, 100% duty. All drives are externally accessible, as are the lights and camera. It is possible to connect the tether to the top, back or bottom of the vehicle.

The AC-ROV development team decided to design the 'smallest ROV in the business' knowing that 'small' would force innovation and simplicity.

A major issue with small vehicles is their limited ability to pull a length of cable through the water but All Oceans has the answer with ballasting the tether cable a distance back from the ROV or deploying a Tether Management System.
