Forming a cradle into which a casualty can be floated and then recovered from the water, the frame supports the casualty's body throughout the operation.

The horizontal recovery position reduces the possibility of further injury or a sudden drop in blood pressure that could induce a heart attack. The Dacon Recovery Frame features a line of floats on the outer fibreglass rod which not only help create the U-shaped cradle effect but also add buoyancy to the cradle while in operations, allowing the rescuers to assist the casualty into the frame before retrieval.
