Cat Extends Range With 3412D Commercial

The new 3412D propulsion engine is now available to the commercial marine market from Caterpillar . The V-12 four stroke cycle diesel engine offers higher horsepower than its predecessor, the Cat 3412C, meeting customer demand for more power without compromising engine life.
The 3412D is based on the proven, reliable and durable 3412C platform with several significant improvements.
The 3412D bore and stroke have been increased to 145mm by 162mm to provide 32.10 litres displacement. The 3412 turbocharger and nozzle technology provides for no visible smoke during steady-state operation and significantly less transient smoke.
The new engine meets the strict US EPA Tier 2 emission requirements which came into force for commercial engines on the first of this month. The 3412D is available in seven ratings ranging from 542bhp at 1,800rpm to 872 bhp at 2,100rpm, including both heat exchanger and keel cooled options. Other options available include protection and starting systems as well as transmissions.
