Multibeam Systems for Colombian Navy

Bremen-based Atlas Hydrographic , in association with Ferrostaal de Colombia, has received an order from the Colombian Navy 'sHydrographic Service for a 30kHz Atlas Hydrosweep MD-2 multibeam echosounder with a depth range of 5,000m in addition to a 200kHz Atlas Fansweep 20 shallow water system combining bathymetric and sidescan imaging functions.

The systems, which were due to be commissioned in December for extensive charting of national waters, have been installed respectively on two Hydrographic Service survey vessels operating from Cartagena.

Each system has also been supplied together with a TSS motion sensor, a Valeport sound velocity profiler and Trimble DGPS facilities. Support software comprises Coastal Oceanographics' HYPACK MAX and HYSWEEP modules for acquisition and storage of all data in addition to Caris HIPS and SIPS for post-processing operations.

The Colombian Navy order follows current commissionings of similar Atlas multibeam echosounding systems by the Finnish and Royal Malaysian navies.
