ISPS Ship Warden Boom

In the run up to the introduction of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code on the first of this month, Aberdeen UK based ships agents and freight forwarders Seletar Shipping has employed 20 new members of staff to man its Ships Warden System (SWS) and looks set to recruit a further 10 as a result of increased demand for the service.

SWS enables clients to address their security needs and comply with the new legislation. The service effectively provides a single manned access point as well as a 24 hour reception and security system, ensuring access to a client's ship is well controlled.

SWS comprises a highly visible modular unit and barrier control system operated by professional and highly trained Ship Wardens.

They ensure embarkation is controlled and recorded as well as monitoring restricted areas, decks and surrounding areas. The SWS frees ships' crews to conduct the business of the vessel when in port, keeping security issues firmly on the quay with the Ship Wardens.

The Wardens work only on marine projects and are therefore familiar with the safety and security aspects unique to such projects.

Seletar's SWS is currently offered in Aberdeen, Peterhead and other ports in the northeast of Scotland.
