Yacht Port Cartagena Makes Good Progress

When completed, Yacht Port Cartagena will have moorings for more than 60 super yachts.

Yacht Port Cartagena will have 63 moorings for super yachts, and is being developed by Yacht Port Cartagena Inc, Izar and Maritime Solutions Spain.

The construction work, which is based on the use of a total of four 12m deep concrete 'docks' with multiple concrete blocks for mooring lines is due to be finished in September, and the marina itself completed by the end of the year.

All of the moorings will have the stern-to configuration, except the longest one, which will be some 120m in length, which will be both alongside and stern-to.

The outer dock will be used as a waiting quay providing alongside berthing for boats up to 140m.

Cartagena has a number of advantages as a super yacht marina, being located in the western Mediterranean. Cartagena is a medium sized city with a high standard of living, good transport connections and an excellent climate with an average annual temperature of 17º.

Marketing director Caridad Moreno said the new marina would help to satisfy the growing need for berthing facilities for super yachts in the Mediterranean. 'It is designed to supply both owner and crew with all the amenities they would expect in a modern marina, including safety, privacy and easy access, ' she explained.

Facilities will include shore power up to 500A, freshwater, sewage collection at the berth, a fuel facility, multiple telephone lines and high speed internet, satellite television and private parking. The berths will be available for rent or lease for a period of 30 years. In addition to the piers, a club house will be built that will accommodate a marina office and a Member's Club.

Of the 63 berths that will be available at Yacht Port Cartagena, 38m will be 25m x 7m; 14 will be 30m x 8m; three will be 40m x 9m; two will be 60 x 12m; two will be 80m x 15m; two will be 100m x 16m; and two will be 120m x 20m.
