English Nature Coastal Consultation Gets Underway

English Nature, the UK Government's independent conservation agency, launched a consultation last month on the future of the coasts and seas around England.

The organisation is seeking to galvanise support for a vision which would make space for both people and wildlife through better planning at sea, set aside areas free from extractive uses, and find ways to help communities live with changing coastlines.

Kimmo Evans, English Nature's Maritime Protected Areas officer said, 'We firmly believe that to succeed, we need the commitment and support of those who rely on the sea for their livelihood, for food and recreation. We value peoples' views on the work that we do and the direction that we take.'

The consultation document 'Our Coasts and Seas - A 21st Century Agenda for Their Recovery, Conservation and Sustainable Use' is available for comment until 10 September at the website www. englishnature. org. uk/ coasts_and_seas
