Boosted Accommodation on Maersk Supply's Latest AHTS
01 Jul 2004
Maersk Supply Service's latest A-Type anchor handling/tug supply ship Maersk Advancer has bolstered accommodation capability and is also only the second in Maersk's A-Type ship series to fly the British flag.
The latest AHTS vessel was built and delivered to London-based Maersk Supply Service by German shipyard Volkswerft in Stralsund, which is also part of the Danish A.P.Moller parent group. She is 90.3m long and 23m wide, draws 7.8m and is of 6,536gt and 4,888dwt max.
Maersk Supply Project Engineer Esben H. Grundtvig told Maritime Journal that earlier A-type ships delivered since 2000 had been built to accommodate only 56 people.
'However, our clients required more accommodation during offshore projects. Therefore we increased the accommodation to 70 persons on the following A-types, and even to as high as 82 persons on Maersk Winner'.
The Maersk Winner was an A-type AHTS fitted with an SWL 200 ton heavecompensated offshore crane.
Registered in Douglas, Isle of Man, Maersk Advancer, like sister Maersk Asserter delivered in April, flies the British flag and is propelled by four Caterpillar/ MaK Type 9M32 main engines of 23,494 BHP output with a continuous bollard pull of 257 tons. She has two CP Kamewa nozzles and two Becker flap rudders. Forward thrusters are one 2039 BHP CP Tunnel and one 1768 BHP CP retractable Azimuth units while the two aft thrusters are 1196 BHP CP Tunnel units.
Maersk Advancer's maximum speed is given as 16.2 knots and economic service speed as 11.0 knots.
The new AHTS ship carries Rauma Waterfall towing and anchor handling equipment and boasts a 4.4 by 5.2 m moonpool.
Her dynamic positioning system is a DP 11-Simrad SDP 21 while her autopilot is from Atlas and her three gyro compasses are from Anschuetz.
Other equipment is from Furuno, SAM, STN Atlas, Kannad and Motorola.
