Day Return to Antwerp
01 Jul 2004
Earlier this month, Dutch towage operators Van der Wees Watertransporten returned a 420 tonne Gottwald type HMK280E to Antwerp from Le Havre.
Dordrecht based Van der Wees were contracted by Antwerp based Gottwald Port Technology, for whom they had initially towed the crane to a rental customer in Le Havre last November.
The 16.5 tonne bollard pull tug Broedertrouw 16 towed the flat top pontoon Lastdrager, measuring 66m by 15.5m by 4m and with a capacity of 3,100 tonnes, to Le Havre where it was pre-ballasted with 1,000m 3to obtain the correct quay height. The crane was rolled on in an operation that took only 35 minutes thanks to six mobile pumps and an integrated ballast system which allows ballast water to enter or leave the tanks through special valves fitted in the bottom of the pontoon. The crane was then sea fastened using 120 chains and was ready for departure by the end of the day.
