The machine will load pallets of food stocks and other provisions for the QM2 's 18 scheduled trips in 2004 and will also undertake handling duties with other passenger vessels at Southampton Docks.

Initially, Finning provided a Cat TH460 on a demonstration trail so that operators could get to grips with the machine before QM2 's maiden voyage in January.

Due to the design of the ship's store doorway, a telehandler with a more extensive reach was desirable do a decision was made to opt for the larger Cat TH560B.

The Cat machine is the first of its kind to be sold in the UK and is equipped with an electro-hydraulic control system which provides smooth, logical control of all boom and work tool functions. The system allows all three boom functions to be operated simultaneously, enabling precise placement of loads during challenging applications. Operators made favourable comments about the machine's easy to operate single lever joystick controls.
