seawork Exhibitor's Booms Don't Bust
01 Jun 2004
Following an EU Tender, seawork2004 exhibitor Vikoma International has won an order to supply 600m of Hd Boom on reels to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency 's anti-pollution stockpile. The Southampton based firm's oil containment booms have earned a worldwide reputation for effectiveness and durability, and their latest Hd Boom is stronger and heavier than the previous fast deployment Hi-Sprint Booms.
Hd Boom is constructed from Neoprene coated nylon fabric and vulcanised at Vikoma's factory, maintaining the excellent wave following and oil retention characteristics that have been proven by the system for over 30 years.
Internal built-in bulkheads sub-divide the main boom to give independent sealed chambers whilst still maintaining the clean, uninterrupted external profile that is essential when containing spills.
To deploy and recover booms with minimal effort, this equipment is powered on and off by hydraulically rotated reels designed, fabricated and tested by Vikoma to conform to its ISO9001 standards.
Vikoma International has also just received five new Valiant RIBs fitted with Yamaha outboard engines from Isle of Wight based Kevin Mole Outboards. The boats form part of an oil spill response equipment order to Vikoma from an overseas customer.
To ensure that the boats exceed the rigorous standards that will be required in their working environment, they underwent trials conducted by Cowes based sea school Seasmart. Angus Belcher, the school's principal said, 'The combination of the Valiant RIB and Yamaha engine makes for a very rugged and serviceable craft. These boats have great 'sea legs' and will provide fast, tough working platforms for the customer.'
