    Dakota Creek Industries ofAnacortes, Washington USA has earned a reputation for versatility. Their latest project is a 146m x 33m diesel electric vessel for the University of Delawar e. Designed by BayMarine of Rhode Island, the new marine research vessel will have a steel hull and an aluminum superstructure. 

    Environmental Advance in Prop Shaft Sealing Technology

    With over 35,000 propeller shaft seal installations behind them, Ocean Venture Seals (OVS) has developed a new, environmentally friendly Eco-Seal which claims major advancement of propeller shaft sealing technology as its design means there is no leakage to the environment from the propeller shaft and no contamination of the sterntube oil by seawater. Any small leakages of oil or water are contained in the Eco-Seal's casing and drained inboard, with any leaked fluids being handled as bilge water.

    West Yorkshire UK based Renold Hi-Tec Couplings has been awarded a contract to supply high performance DCB 838.0 rubber in compression shaft couplings for marine propulsion systems to be installed in a fleet of anchor handling tug/supply vessels. 

    No Noise for NOAA

    To ensure that fish populations could be studied effectively, a new Fisheries Survey Vessel (FSV) has been delivered recently for America's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA). The 64m LOA Oscar Dyson was built by VT Halter Marine of Mississippi USA and will play a vital role in maintaining the health of the northern Pacific fishing industry. 

    Wartsila Power for an Extremely Cold Climate

    Wartsila Corporation has received and order for four engines for installation on the first Sakhalin icebreaker to be built by the Kvaerner Masa-Yards Shipyard inFinland. The vessel will be equipped with three 8 cylinder Wartsila 38 main engines in diesel electric drive and an additional 6 cylinder Wartsila 20 engine to power a harbour/ emergency genset. 

    Squids In With Dependable Repower

    A 16m squid fishing boat operating out of Port St Francis in South Africa has been repowered with a pair of Perkins Sabre M215C engines in a bid to achieve improved economy and reliability. At the same time, the owners of the Sangoma opted to upgrade the vessel's old genset with a new Perkins Sabre 4TGM genset engine.
