Bear Back with Outboard RIBs
01 Jun 2004
Seawork exhibitors Ocean Dynamics has chosen Suzuki electronic fuel injected four stroke engines for a new range of outboard powered RIBs they are developing.
Ocean Dynamics have built large aluminium hulled offshore RIBs for many years, including the 11m craft on show at seawork2003 only weeks before adventurer Bear Grylls and his team used it to make the first successful unassisted crossing of the North Atlantic in an open boat.
In the past year, Ocean Dynamics have turned their attention to building RIBs driven by outboards. The company's chief executive, Shaun White said 'Until recently we considered large diesels coupled to jet drives as being the reliable solution for the extremes in which our boats are used as well as being the most economical fuel-wise.
Now outboard technology has come on to such an extent that performance, reliability and fuel economy seriously competes with diesel engines.'
The first boat being produced is an 8m aluminium hulled RIB powered by one of the recently introduced Suzuki 250 hp V6 engines. This boat is being supplied to Bear Grylls who will employ it on his Team Building Adventure Courses and his wide ranging promotional and media work.
Richard Whitaker, marine sales & marketing manager at Suzuki GB said, 'Ocean Dynamics has an international reputation for the quality of their RIBworker craft and we are delighted that they have chosen Suzuki as their outboard partner. The new range will no doubt appeal to all those looking for a tough, hard working RIB as well as increasing opportunities in the commercial sector.'
