CatFish on the Menu at seawork
01 Jun 2004
Pepe Boatyard is bringing the first example of their new CatFish range of aluminium catamarans to the floating exhibition at seawork2004 .Built entirely from marine grade 5083 aluminium, Shogun was built for Hayling Island UK charter skipper Colin Johnson.
The CatFish range has been jointly designed by Pepe Boatyard and Arthur Mursell of TT Designs. This is the second generation of catamarans to come from the Isle of Wight design house well known for their work on the Nelson marque and more recent GRP catamarans.
Colin Johnson opted for a 38ft Sport Fishing design with a 15ft beam suited to local marina restrictions yet still offering a massive working deck. This beam allows for a full width wheelhouse with internal seating for 10 and berths for six. A separate owners cabin is incorporated on the port side.
Shogun is powered by twin Cummins 6BTA 5.9L diesels supplied by Cummins Diesel UK. The 280hp units are fitted with ZF 220A gearboxes with a reduction ratio of 2:1. These drive Clements Aqualoy propeller shafts fitted with four bladed propellers to provide a loaded cruising speed of 17 knots and sprint speeds of 22 knots.
Pepe Boatyard have taken orders for a further six CatFish of varying size and layout. TT Designs has again assisted with the conceptualising of the new CatFish Commercial 10, which will combine the strength, longevity and weight savings of aluminium to deliver higher speeds from the relatively small engines required under the 10m code. The boat has been tailored to fit tightly within the boundaries of the code to give operators maximum size, volume and performance while requiring a license of no more than 100 VCUs.
