Chafe-Pro Ties Up at seawork2004

Chafe-Pro (UK) Ltd returns to seawork after a successful debut at seawork2003 . The British producers of an American designed product which prevents chafe abrasion damage to a ship's mooring lines have a set a course to convince European freight and cruise shipping operators that Chafe-Pro line guards can make their vessels' mooring lines safer and prevent the accidents that disrupt schedules and increase insurance premiums.
The Chafe-Pro line guard prevents chafing, wear or burn damage where mooring lines come into contact with fairleads, rollers, bitts, bollards and chocks.
The line guard consists of a specially designed heavy duty nylon weave outer cover and an inner protective shield made from marine grade nylon. This claims greater protection from abrasion and UV exposure than high-modulus Aramid or HMPE lines can offer.
With many vessels now operated with reduced crew and mooring teams sometimes short handed when tying up, an added bonus of Chafe-Pro line guards is a Velcro type fixing system which allows them to be quickly positioned on a vessel's mooring ropes exactly when and where needed. This can be done by one crew member even under arduous conditions.
When in position, the Chafe-Pro guards do not slip and thus do not require checking and repositioning.
Chafe-Pro (UK) managing director John Hale said, 'The days of using old tyres or fire hoses to protect mooring lines are rapidly disappearing.
Organisations like the IMO and the MCA are starting to set out clear guidelines for safe mooring systems. Ensuring mooring lines are serviceable and safe is a fundamental requirement.'
