Corrosion-free Decking Makes seawork Debut
01 Mar 2004
Cheshire UK based Fibreforce Composites Ltd is expanding into the markets for marina and pontoon decking having already established their fibreglass gratings in the offshore oil and gas and chemical processing industries.
The company will make its seawork debut this year showing the range of their products in aperture sizes ranging from 12 to 51mm, a choice of colour, and in gritted or non-gritted versions. Both versions provide slip resistance superior to that of wood, especially in wet or icy conditions.
The resins used by Fibreforce deliver excellent corrosion resistance to a product which, unlike some other decking systems, requires no treatment or maintenance to ensure continuing performance.
Seawater and detergents have no effect on the fibreglass system.
Installation costs are claimed to be generally lower than for other systems, a direct result of low panel weights making manhandling easy. Despite the weight advantages over steel, these gratings can be used in the same loads bearing applications as steel gratings.
The panels are also easy to cut to shape with hand tools.
The open structure of the fibreglass gratings allows water to pass through easily, so they are particularly useful when decking out areas subject to wave action. They form part of a range of products made of the same materials, including hand rail systems, kick plates and stair elements, which makes it possible to have a completely corrosion-free installation.
