Unlike the earlier five Targas, which were all Targa 31 models, the newest boat has been built based on the Targa 37 hull design but specially lengthened to 40ft.

The vessel is powered by twin Yanmar 440hp diesels driving through a Rolls Royce FF310 jet transmission for an in service top speed of 35 knots. During trials in Poole the boat's power was sufficient to realise 40 knots.

Both the interior and exterior accommodation were changed from normal specification to provide the tried and tested walkaround wheelhouse which makes life easier for the crew as they perform a broad range of duties on the River Thames.

The wheelhouse has in fact been extended to provide capacity for up to 18 passengers, with a separate dedicated helm quarters.

The forward cabin was specially redesigned to include a full head with washing facilities, a separate fully-fitted galley area and occasional overnight berthing for two crew.

Following the official champagne launch overseen by Sir John Stevens, the boat joined the other Metropolitan Police Targas in a high speed run to Tower Bridge before going directly into service.
