Spanish Newbuilds for North Star

The North Star Shipping division of global energy services company, The Craig Group , has signed a £20m contract with Spain's Astillerios Balenciaga SA for four newbuild stand-by emergency response vessels.
The vessels, destined to operate in the North Sea stand-by sector, will join a fleet of 26 stand-by, emergency response, rescue, and multi-function survey vessels operated by North Star .
The 48.25m LOA vessels, with an 11m beam, will be built to a design by IMT of Montrose.
They will be fitted with the latest rescue and response technology and feature a dedicated deck for the treatment and comfort of survivors rescued from the sea.
The vessels will perform other vital services such as anti-collision surveillance, pollution control and oil recovery, emergency towage and tanker assist duties.
The first of the stand-by vessels is due for completion in the third quarter of 2005, with the other three to follow at four month intervals.
