Safety Rewarded

The work of Briggs Marine Contractors Ltd at the Chevron Texaco oil refinery in Pembroke, Wales has been officially recognised with the Good Contractors Safety Award .

The Fife based marine contractor is contracted by the oil company to provide oil and gas terminal services at the refinery. This includes running all mooring lines to the jetty, connecting/disconnecting the cargo arms and being on stand-by dockside to ensure the proper discharge of cargo.

Briggs has been operating at the plant since 1 October 2003, providing a 24/7 service to assist the vessels that dock at one of the refinery's eight berths for anything between 8 and 36 hours. It is a highly skilled job, performed by a Briggs team which assists tankers ranging in size from 2,000 tonnes to 285,000 tonnes.

Bob Tooke, Briggs Marine Operations Manager at the Pembroke Refinery said, 'This accolade recognises the safe berthings and sailing of up to 2,400 vessels a year in an environmentally sensitive area.

The award is a tribute to the professional approach shown by all the team at Pembroke.'
