Jan De Nul Growing Again

Belgium's Jan De Nul Group has ordered two stationary cutter suction dredgers from the same Tianjin Xinhe Shipyard in China that is building four 3,700m3 split barges for the dredging and marine construction giant.

The two medium size dredgers will boast 1,500kW of power to the cutterhead and a total installed diesel engine power of 8,500kW.

Delivery is scheduled for the first and third quarters of 2006.

The 86.3m LOA dredgers will be suitable for dredging hard soils.

With this order, valued at some 60m, Jan De Nul initiates a new chapter in the renewal and expansion of its fleet. An earlier programme initiated in 2000 and now completed saw five hopper dredgers, a self-propelled cutter suction dredger, and four barges added to the Jan De Nul fleet at a cost of more than ? 400m.
