The Kedr integrated simulator will train hydrographic experts to carry out underwater topographical surveys using programmes such as 'Konstruktor', 'Muskat-2' and 'Survey', whilst also teaching navigational conning to crews of survey and subsidiary vessels.

Transas has applied for a patent for the Kedr simulator under the name 'HydroTrainer'.

During the project's three years of development work, the patent was taken out for the bottom topography modelling device, which is considered to be the heart of the simulator, providing its measuring systems with basic data on sea bottom contours.

The simulator is currently installed in the St Petersburg Naval Institute. Vladimir Sekachev, the chief developer for Transas' Cartography & Hydrography Department said, 'In view of the electronic cartography system's development, the trend in hydrographic simulation systems is becoming more promising.

The educational institutions of Cuba, Vietnam and Ukraine have already shown interest in this new Transas invention.'
