Some 28 vessels were in the yard for repairs and refurbishment, 30% of which were in the tanker class. However, the versatility of the yard was demonstrated by the presence of LPG carriers, livestock carriers, Ro-Ros, dredgers, general cargo vessels and others.

During the third quarter, over 100 specifications were received from owners around the world.

These were converted into a contract award success rate of 26%. Over 96 vessels have already been repaired at ASRY this year and all indications suggest 2004 will one of the yard's best years for some time.

Dock occupancy rates during this period have reflected the high volume of business, with the graving dock achieving over 94% occupancy. Similarly, the two floating docks have maintained rates in excess of 87% for Dock No 2 and 95% for Dock No 3.

ASRY has also been successful in securing a significant contract from KOTC for the building of a new service boat. This contract is the first for a new type of business at the yard which ASRY hopes to extend via ongoing discussions with other clients about similar projects.

The demand for blasting and painting has continued to remain high during the third quarter, with some 750,000m 2of quality painting being undertaken.

The yard has completed over 3.1 million m 2of painting and 5,643 tons of steel work through the first three quarters of 2004.
