Homecoming Refit for 'HMS Northumberland'

The marine division of Gateshead UK based protective coatings specialist Pyeroy ismaintaining the region's links with one of the last Royal Navy vessels built on the Tyne.
Pyeroy is repainting the HMS Northumberland as part of a major refit underway at the Rosyth Royal Dockyard.
HMS Northumberland was built and launched at Swan Hunter's Wallsend yard in 1992 and was accepted into Royal Navy service in 1994.
Pyeroy's repainting work is being carried out from its Rosyth office as part of a major 12 month general refit being undertaken by main contractor Babcock Support Services and involves the complete blasting and painting of the ship including hull and tanks.
HMS Northumberland is the last of a series of five Type 23 frigates to be repainted by the company. Similar work is ongoing on the aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious and the contract follows completion of the repainting of HMS Invincible last year.
