Standards for Ro-ro Linkspans Agreed

A new design code is being drafted for the design of rollon- roll-off ramps, linkspans and walkways, and a meeting organised by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in the UK recently has reviewed a draft addition to the suite of standards in British Standard 6349 , the Maritime Code .
The new standard will enable ro-ro infrastructure to be planned, designed and built to an acceptable common set of rules. The change will apply in particular to port and ferry operators, consultants, contractors, safety organisations and insurers. The draft is now out in the industry for consultation and was due to be submitted to the British Standard Institute in August.
Following official editing, it is expected to be published as an official draft standard 'BS 6349 Part 8' early next year.
