The members only session in Aberdeen heard Keith May of the Department of Trade and Industry discuss decommissioning regulations, a 2004 decommissioning perspective from Chris van Beek of Heerema Marine Contractors, and Ian Murray of Oceaneering International spoke on subsea decommissioning. Under the 'renewables' theme, Chris Sherman, the UK Health & Safety Executive's Chief Inspector of Diving spoke about inshore diving on wind farms and Mike Prowse of Global Marine Systems discussed his experience of cable laying for wind farms at the Horns Rev site. Alan MacLeay of Subsea 7 was able to embrace both topics in his presentation on decommissioning and renewables, exploring the overlap with the possible conversion of the Beatrice field into a wind farm.

'Decommissioning and renewables offer a potentially huge area of work for which IMCA members are especially suitable in terms of experience on actual projects, their safety record, and also their ability to use innovative techniques in hostile environments, said IMCA Chief Executive Hugh Williams.

'The discussions verified that IMCA members are focussed on the issues, challenges and opportunities of decommissioning and marine renewables.'
