Kooren Shipbuilding Take up Rotor Tug Options

Rotterdam based Kooren Shipbuilding and Trading BV , a subsidiary of Kotug , has exercised their options with the ASL Shipyard Pte Ltd inSingapore to build a further pair of their unique 'Rotor' tugs. Earlier in the year, the company placed an order with the yard for two 28.30m long vessels, with an anticipated bollard pull of over 63 tonnes.

The new RT 60 will be a little smaller than the four Rotor tugs now in service.

The tugs will be powered by three Niigata main engines of 1200kW each driving Niigata Z-Peller azimuthing propulsion units. Delivery is scheduled for April 2005 and that original contract included options for two further vessels.

Those options have now been declared and delivery of the second pair will take place in December 2005. The 28.3m vessels will be almost identical but have different machinery, intended to give them a bollard pull exceeding 65 tonnes. Each vessel will have three Wartsila 8L20 main engines of 1440kW each driving Wartsila/Lips FS200/2100 HR CP propulsion units with controllable pitch propellers. The tugs will be classed by Lloyds Register and equipped with fire-fighting equipment capable of delivering not less than 1200m 3/hr.

Kooren Shipbuilding and Trading BV and ASL Shipyard Pte Ltd are building the vessels to the highest standard, with various features included not normally incorporated in a tug.

All four RT-60 Rotor tugs are available for direct sale or long-term bareboat contract and the company is inviting discussion with interested parties. Parent company Kotug already operate four 'Rotor' tugs in Rotterdam and Bremerhaven.

The existing vessels are larger vessels, of 31.63m in length, rated at 6300bhp and with a bollard pull of 78 tonnes.
